I actually purchased the new MacBook Air with the M1 chip. It has persistent power issues. External devices, even ones certified by Apple, plugged into the USB-C ports regularly cause the system to crash due to some funky (a technical term) issue within the OS kernel itself. It has been exceedingly frustrating. Nearly a month working with tech support with no offer to replace the hardware yet.
